DAY 4: January 29, 2022

Guest Speaker: Janeane Santos

The final day of my CVAP Journey is finally here!

Our host for today Janeane Santos shared her experiences on how she started with CVAP. She encouraged us by showing us some of her successful projects all throughout her voice-acting career.

Branding Advice

Janeane thought us how to have good branding. According to her,

our brand should be catchy, resonate with us, and connote a positive vibe.

The Significance of Practice

She also emphasized the importance of continuous practice all throughout our voice-acting journey. As she said, in all stages, we should practice! Practice! Practice! We should not wait for the project to come before you practice. Dapat you take time to improve yourself while waiting for one.

Practice will help us do our best in our craft in the long run and with that, we are the ones who will benefit from this. She added,

“Kapag maganda talaga ang output and attitude sa voiceover work, and relationship sa client, sunod sunod na yan kasi irerefer ka”.

Sinabi rin niya na kailangan lang natin na mag commit 100% sa project kahit gaano tayo nahihirapan kasi makakaya rin natin talaga lahat.

Next Steps after CVAP

Janeane also gave us a glimpse of what’s lies ahead of us after the program.

“So, after CVAP what’s next? This is just the beginning and there are more opportunities out there, so you just need to practice.”

How to practice? Record. Listen to your own voice. Let others hear it and ask for feedback from them.

In practice, we can also do some of these to improve our voice.

We should do tongue twister because it improves our pronunciation and presence of mind.

We should read sample scripts continuously to improve the way we speak. We must use our facial expressions and gestures to add emphasis to what we say. We can also use leads in line.

Getting Gig Opportunities

There are many things we can start doing to start getting gig opportunities.

Audition is one. To do that, we can join FB groups, voice cast as a CVA, join sites such as voice bunny, Fiverr, etc. This is a crucial part because it will test your dedication and patience. this is the part where we get a lot of rejections, but once chosen that is just a part where we start our true battle for claiming our prize as winners.

Rejections are normal and are really a part of our life in general. All we need to do is acknowledge it and cry and rest, but let us not allow these rejections to stop us to go where we want to go and achieve what we want in this industry. After all, every rejection is a learning experience, and let's treat it as our practice.

There is no other way but to get ourselves out there to learn and improve. We should stop being shy and post our passion projects on social media. We can market ourselves as voice artists. Look for those people who need a voice by doing volunteer work. Having clients is good but we can also encourage them to refer us to others. Let us also get connected with our fellow artists and collaborate.

The morning session ended with Janeane’s message saying: “Just continue persevering siguradong may mararating yan.”

Also, Gracey Mangoba, one of the hosts, said that “We face many life adversities, but we always come back strong!”

Afternoon Dubbing Session

Furthermore, the afternoon session was again allotted for another exciting and fun experience for every one of us.

We were given 40 minutes to prepare for our dubbing activity. Our group, Fantastic 5, has chosen the movie “Four Sisters and A Wedding”. I was tasked to have double roles, one was a husband (Honey Boy) and the other one was a male friend (Ketchup).

We’ve practiced many times and even given feedback to each other. I love everyone’s honesty because it helped me to give my best during the actual virtual dubbing during the afternoon session. I know that we did our best and we are all did great.

We were also given a chance to hear Sir Pocholo once more. He mentioned several Pochologies that are really valuable and one of those that I really remember is how to stay connected with our family here. We can be channels for others' improvement, so let us try to share what we have learned with others as well.

This is a wonderful Saturday, and I am always thankful to be part of the CVAP family. Mabuhay and let us continue to share our positive voices because someone out there needs to hear it, indeed!
